€29 million for healthcare facilities in Sligo and Leitrim

The Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, has today approved the publication of the Health Service Executive’s Building and Equipment Capital Plan for 2026. This plan brings an investment of €29 million to Sligo and Leitrim, as part of a €1.3 billion allocation nationally for the development and enhancement of healthcare infrastructure according to Fine Gael Minister of State, Frank Feighan TD.

Minister Feighan said, “The investments set out in the 2026 HSE Capital plan shows our commitment to improve our local health service facilities and ensure better access to care for our patients. Investing in our health service is important as our population grows, with many people living longer, healthier lives.

“Today’s announcement, including a further €2m investment in the 90 bed Community Nursing Unit at Carrick-on-Shannon, is welcome news that will help bring healthcare services closer to home and better meet the needs of patients and families in our community.” 

"Meanwhile in Co Sligo I am pleased to welcome a number of key projects that have received some important funding they include, at the Clarion Road, Sligo, a New Build Hub for Integrated Care Programme for Chronic Disease and Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons Appraisal €56,000.

Included are: St. Johns Campus, Sligo, the refurbishment of an existing single-storey office block, and an extension. The overall project will provide office accommodation, clinic rooms, receptions etc. - Tender €1,066,660.

Markieviez House, Sligo Refurbishment (Protected Structure) - Appraisal €56,000.

Nazereth House, Sligo Nazareth House - Phase 4 - Primary Care Centre including External Works Detailed Design - €1,122,800.

Construction of a new ambulance station with regional training and education facility over two floor levels on a greenfield site, Summerhill Roundabout Design Feasibility €112,280.

Sligo University Hospital, in accordance with the Acute Inpatient Bed Capacity Expansion Plan, refurbishment of existing rehabilitation ward accommodation (26 beds) at St. John's Hospital to provide additional acute inpatient beds, for lower complexity cases -  Complete €27,000.

Sligo University Hospital, In accordance with the Acute Inpatient Bed Capacity Expansion Plan, additional bed capacity (42 beds) consisting of single en-suite rooms with ancillary accommodation - Tender €16,000,000.

Sligo University Hospital, North West Hospice extension to provide beds (12 beds), outpatient day care & home care team and admin space Construction €5m Sligo University Hospital Phased upgrade to existing Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) -  Detailed Design €561,400.

Sligo University Hospital, DCP/ Redevelopment - Phase 1. Ward Block, High Dependency Unit/ Intensive Care Unit, Radiology, Paediatric, Maternity/Obs, Theatre Department, Emergency Dept. Acute Medical Assessment Unit/ Clinical Decision Unit/ Renal Dialysis Unit Detailed Design €56,140 Sligo University Hospital, upgrade of existing Macular Treatment room and creation of a second room. Extra space to perform increased injection therapies and ophthalmic surgery, - detailed design €56,140.

The Installation of a Second Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, including a new build for the relocation of Nuclear Medicine (Phase 2), reconfiguration of existing nuclear medicine with extension to take 2nd CT Scanner accompanying requirements. Detailed Design €112,280. reconfiguration and refurbishment of an existing space to allow the relocation and expansion of the existing Microbiology lab. Works include fit out of shell and core space - Design Feasibility €56,140.

Sligo University Hospital Surgical Hub for Sligo Appraisal - AG 0 €500,000.

Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo Primary Care Centre to be delivered as HSE build - Tender €2,245,600.

 “I am pleased with the total allocation of €27,028,440 for HSE developments in Sligo which demonstrates a continued commitment to the health infrastructure of UCH Sligo and other facilities around our county”, concluded Minister Feighan.

Commenting on the publication of the HSE Capital Plan, Minister Carroll MacNeill said: “I’m pleased to approve the publication of the HSE Capital Plan for 2026. By increasing capacity and developing the necessary infrastructure we will enable greater provision of care in our hospitals and in our communities, we are advancing the Sláintecare vision to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
