Rubbish piled up in the back garden of the house.

The scale of rubbish and waste discovered in the back garden of a house in Ballaghaderreen presents “a serious health hazard”, a local councillor has said.

After being alerted to the issue by one of his constituents, Independent councillor Micheal Frain visited the property yesterday along with the litter warden and a council environmental official.

He said what he found there was completely unacceptable.

“The scale of rubbish and waste present is a serious health hazard and is having a negative impact on neighbouring homes and the wider community.

“Let me be very clear: this type of behaviour will not be tolerated. The resident responsible will be prosecuted under the relevant environmental and waste legislation,” he said.

Cllr Frain said that communities deserve to live in clean and safe environments.

“Illegal dumping and the hoarding of waste like this puts public health at risk and damages the area for everyone.

“If you see this type of behaviour anywhere in your community, please report it. We will continue to work with the local authority to ensure those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
