'A wonderful Roscommon ambassador': tributes paid following passing of well-known publican
The late Aonghus Leydon.
Many tributes are being paid following the passing of Roscommon native, Aonghus Leydon, co-owner with his brother Tomás of two very successful pubs in London, The Auld Shillelagh and W.B. Yeats.
Mr Leydon, Goff Street, Roscommon, passed away peacefully after a long illness bravely borne, surrounded by his loving family at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin and Roscommon Hospice.
Many tributes are being paid following his passing. Chairperson of Club Rossie, Pat Compton described him as “a wonderful ambassador for Roscommon and will be much missed by the family but also by all of us who were lucky to know his friendship.”
Another sympathiser described him as “a true gentleman and always greeted with his smile”.
Mr Leydon was a staunch supporter of Roscommon GAA, Club Rossie and the Roscommon Association of London.
Beloved eldest son of Ríona and recently deceased Seán, and loving brother of Aisling, Máire, Toirealach, Nollaig, Seán Óg, Tomás and Ailbhe.
Adored Uncle of Zara, Thomas, James, Ethan, Adam, Conor, Rónán, Jayne Catherine, William, Samuel, Aoife, Ciarán, Caoimhe, Oisín, Saoirse and Éabha. Cherished Godfather of Zara, Pearse, Sydney, Samuel and Rónán.
He is deeply mourned by his brothers-in-law Thomas Carthy, Paul Tighe, Eric Godfrey and Owen Dunne, Sister-in-law Iwona Leydon, Toirealach’s partner Jim O’Brien, Seán Óg’s partner Ruth, and by his aunts Mary McCarthy, Anne O’Brien and Gretta Sheeran, uncles-in-law Gabriel, John and Pat. Sadly missed by all his cousins.
He is fondly remembered by a wide circle of dear friends.
