Second half surge earns Boyle O’Rourke Cup honours
Boyle captain Luke Glennon accepts the O'Rourke Cup from Frank Egan, Roscommon County Board Vice-chairperson.
A second half surge led by Daire Cregg and Cian McKeon saw Boyle claim their first O’Rourke Cup crown since 2022.
The pair combined for 1-9 which helped their side to a nine point victory.
Key players were absent from both sides. The home team were without Donie and Enda Smith while St. Brigid’s were missing a number of players including Ruadhri Fallon and Shane Cunnane.
The first half was a cagey affair, but Brigid’s drew first blood when Brian O’Hara Duggan set Adam Lennon up for the game’s first goal.
A Niall O’Donnell ’45 levelled the game to make the score 0-6 to 1-3 at the break.
Boyle were much improved in the second half and netted shortly after the resumption. Goof play in the build up from Tadgh McKenna and Luke McGrath allowed McKeon raise a green flag.
St. Brigid’s would respond well with a Brian Derwin goal, setup by Ben O’Carroll, eight minutes later, but they would only three more points after that, kicking seven wides in the latter period.
A late Luke McGrath goal sealed the game for Boyle, who finished the league campaign unbeaten after 12 games.
