Deirdre Collins is among the team of student archaeologists from the United States who are in Ballintubber for the summer examining the local 12th century Anglo-Norman castle.

Deirdre’s grandfather Thomas Collins emigrated from Ballintubber in the 1950s.

The Castles in Communities Archaeological Field School and Research Project is in its eight season in the Roscommon village.

The programme provides training in archaeological survey, excavation, and laboratory analysis to the US based students.
