Athlone teen (15) named following fatal swimming tragedy

The teenager who died in a swimming tragedy on Lough Ree has been named as Martin Greene from Athlone.
The 15-year-old from Brawny Close, Athlone, died on Saturday evening after getting into difficulty in the water.
The incident occurred off Carnakilla Point, Glasson, located a few miles outside the midlands town. Gardaí and emergency services responded shortly after 7.30 p.m..
The teenager was recovered from the water following a search operation and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was removed to the mortuary at the Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a post-mortem will take place.
Martin is sadly missed by his heartbroken mother Yvonne, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandmother, relatives and many friends.
He is predeceased by his beloved father John, his grandparents Peter, Christopher and Christina.
Funeral arrangements later will be announced later.
