Big drop in reported burglaries
There were 39 burglary and related offences reported to the county’s garda stations last year.
There were 39 burglary and related offences reported to the county’s garda stations last year, a reduction in the same offences from 2024, the latest figures from the CSO have shown. In 2024, there were 174 burglary and related offences committed and reported to gardaí in the county.
Across the 14 stations, including Roscommon and Castlerea which are the only fulltime stations, a total of 1,424 crimes were recorded in 2025, with road traffic offences accounting for 359 offences, theft 198, public order offences 133, and criminal damage 106. This represents an overall reduction in reported crime, falling from 1,658 total offences in 2024.
The single largest number of burglary and related offences, seven, were recorded by Boyle gardaí, with Ballaghaderreen gardaí recording six. Four burglary offences each were recorded by Roscommon, Castlerea, Clonark, and Frenchpark stations. A further three were recorded by Strokestown and Tulsk Garda Stations. Two burglary and related offences were reported at Elphin, while one each was reported at Roosky and Athleague.
In terms of threats, assaults, and harassment, there were a total of 178 offences reported to gardaí in the county, with the county town accounting for 48 incidents, followed by Castlerea with 42, and Ballaghaderreen with 26. There were five robbery, extortion and hijacking offences, with three occurring in the county town, one in Castlerea and one in Athleague. The county’s gardaí reported a total of 16 weapons offences, with three each being reported in Ballaghaderreen and Roscommon.
There were a total of 63 controlled drugs offences, which could range from simple possession of drugs, to their sale and supply, to the cultivation or manufacture of them.
In terms of total crimes reported, Roscommon Garda Station received the most reports at 478, Castlerea 271, Ballaghaderreen 180, Boyle 110, Frenchpark 73, Strokestown 72, Clonark 55, Elphin 46, Tulsk 35, Roosky 33, Athleague 31, Ballinlough 18, Keadue 15, and Taughmaconnell 7.
