Calls for repairs to ‘forgotten’ Roosky road

A councillor has called for repair works to be prioritised on a badly deteriorated stretch of Roosky road, warning that residents are regularly raising concerns about its condition.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Sean McGowan raised the matter at a Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting, seeking intervention on the L-1624 between Roosky and Clooneagh Crossroads.

He said the section, from what is known locally as O’Neill’s Cross towards Clooneagh Crossroads, is in very poor condition and has become a recurring issue for people living and travelling in the area.

“It’s just been a bit forgotten about,” said Cllr McGowan, adding that he receives calls about the road “on a regular basis”.

Members were told that the road has not received a restoration grant for a number of years. In response, Leitrim County Council said the section will be placed on the next three-year Restoration Improvement Grant programme, subject to the approval of elected members.
