A Roscommon restaurant is to close its doors next month after almost four years in business.

The Italian at Tara Marina, Knockvicar, announced that it will cease trading from November 2nd.

The restaurant's owners said the decision had been prompted by ongoing difficulties in recruiting and retaining suitable kitchen staff locally.

In a social media message, the business described the closure as a "difficult decision" and thanked patrons for their support since opening.

"We are deeply grateful for your incredible support, loyalty, and the many wonderful memories you have shared with us," the statement read.

The restaurant also paid tribute to its landlord, Paddy Gilboy, thanking him for his kindness and support during their time at Tara Marina.

Despite the closure, the owners confirmed that they will be opening a new restaurant in Carrick-on-Shannon at the end of November.

"While we are sad to close this chapter, we are thrilled to share that a new one is about to begin," they said.

The new restaurant's name and exact location have yet to be announced, but the team said further details will be revealed shortly.

Customers holding Italian at Tara Marina gift vouchers will still be able to use them at the new premises.

“Thank you for being part of our journey and for making the past four years so special. We can’t wait to share this exciting new chapter with you. With love and gratitude. The Italian at Tara Marina Team,” concluded the online message.

On Monday night, the Italian at Tara Marina scooped the ‘Best Italian Restaurant’ honours at the Irish Food Awards in Dublin.
