Hopes Dromod-Roosky greyway completed this year

It is hoped to have a substantial part of the Dromod-Roosky greyway completed by the end of the year with works due to start in May. At a recent meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Fianna Fail Councillor Sean McGowan asked for an update on the timeline involved for the construction of the greyway. His motion also asked for an outline of when it will go out to tender, and when can members expect to see the works commencing.

In a report by the Capital Projects Office, he was told: “This project has been advertised for tender. It is anticipated to have a contractor commence on site in May with a view to having the project substantially completed by year end.”

Calls for work on Drumsna off ramp

Calls have been made to have works carried out on the Drumsna off ramp onto the N4 which has been described as dangerous for motorists and pedestrians.

The motion was tabled at a recent meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District by Councillor Irene Guckian Rabbitte who asked Leitrim County Council “to ask the TII to review and lengthen the off ramp down from Drumsna Village heading for Dublin on the N4.”

She said: “It is particularly dangerous as vehicles on the N4 coming from the Sligo direction are in the “blind spot” of mirrors as the cars on the off ramp come down level with the main N4.

“The lane to the exit is not long enough and there have been a number of near misses on that junction. The provision of a walkway for pedestrians at this location would be beneficial as it would take them off the hard shoulder.” In a report by Roads department, members heard that “Leitrim County Council will liaise with the TII and ensure that the design is in accordance with the guidelines and that the required signage is in place and visible to advise all road users. It is unlikely that a footpath will be allowed on the off ramp to a national primary high speed road.”

Clear-up of debris on N4

Works are due to be carried out in the immediate future to clear up debris that has accumulated at Masonite outside Drumsna on the N4.

At a meeting of Carrick Municipal District Councillor Paddy Farrell asked the District Engineer “to engage with the TII to clear the dirt and debris from the N4 at the Masonite junction as soon as possible. The debris that exists at this location is there for a number of months and is unsightly and dirty looking and reflects poorly on the appearance of the county.”

Following his motion, members heard from the roads department that “the council acknowledges the concerns regarding the accumulation of dirt and debris at the N4 Masonite junction. Due to the high-speed nature of this section of road, the removal works involve significant safety risks and requires careful planning.”

“A traffic management (TM) company has been procured, and arrangements are being made to safely carry out the clearance along with other planned maintenance work along this section of the N4. Work is due to be carried out on the week beginning 23rd March 2026.”
