Class Act: CBS Roscommon's wellbeing day, cooking lessons and science week

Students from Gaelscoil de hÍde learning about molecular structures.
Fr Joe McGrath of Throwfire.ie delivered a very uplifting "Wellfest Day" to Sixth Year students. Throw Fire is an outreach to young people that offers wellbeing workshops and retreats within a school, parish, club, or community setting. The workshop was upbeat, fun-filled, thought-provoking, relaxing and hands-on. Students engaged in team-building activities, spent time reflecting, dancing, working with clay, and discussing life after school, the bumps in the road that they may encounter and how to deal with such times. Laughter and positivity abounded throughout the day. Thanks to Fr Joe and Pat most sincerely for their time and Ms Reale for organising this day to enhance the students' well-being.

Transition Year students have been participating in cooking workshops with Margaret Sexton of Margaret’s Kitchen in Roscommon Town over the last two weeks. It is such an important skill to develop and the boys really enjoyed the experience. The boys learned about safe food preparation, keeping a clean kitchen and how to cook a variety of dishes. Thank you, Margaret, for sharing your time and expertise with the boys.

The theme for Science Week 2023 was ‘Human?’ which asks people to consider what it means to be human in today’s world and encourages us to be curious about how we interact with the world around us. To celebrate Science Week, which ran from November 12th-19th Ms. Grennan and her Transition Year science class set up fun experiments and mini workshops for students from St. Coman’s Wood and Gaelscoil de hÍde to participate in science experiments. It was a fantastic display of how interesting and important the field of Science is. Well done to everyone involved in keeping the whole show running smoothly.
