Council plans new fire engine purchase

Roscommon County Council’s fire service budget for this year has increased by almost half a million euro.

According to the council's budget, which was approved by councillors in November, the allocation for fire services was increased from €3,062,900 to €3,508,200. The allocation for fire services training remains at €115,000.

“The increase in fire service costs in the 2026 budget reflects the additional staffing requirements for new fire officers across Roscommon County Fire Stations, in line with the WRC proposals implemented in recent years,” the council said.

Under the council’s capital programme 2026-2028, a new fire engine is to be purchased for €550,000, with funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
