Cllrs Brennan and McDermott to oppose proposed Edenville rezoning

Two motions opposing the rezoning of one of the county’s historic buildings are to be tabled at a special meeting of the council. The meeting has been called for this Monday to discuss plans to increase the amount of land zoned for housing in the county by up to 50%.

Edenville House, also known as Black's House, was built in 1702 as a cavalry military barracks, and has been in the ownership of Roscommon County Council since 1990. Under a proposed variation to the Roscommon County Development Plan 2022-2028, the historic site would change from community infrastructure to outer core. 

The proposed change was met with opposition from the Roscommon Town Team, Roscommon Heritage Group, and the Lisnnamult Tenants and Residents Association, the Roscommon Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, as well as a number of private individuals.

According to the agenda for the meeting, Cllrs Larry Brennan and Marty McDermott are tabling motions opposing the rezoning of Edenville House.
