County ranks 15th for driving test performance

Roscommon has ranked 15th in the country for driving test performance, according to new data.

Roscommon has ranked 15th in the country for driving test performance, according to new national data analysing pass rates, waiting times and no show figures at test centres across Ireland.

The study—carried out by Chil—found that Roscommon’s test centre records an average monthly pass rate of 54%, placing it outside the national top ten. On average, 217 driving test applications are processed monthly at the centre.

Despite its mid table pass rate, Roscommon’s average waiting time of 15.7 weeks is broadly in line with many higher ranked centres. However, the centre records an average of 5.4 no shows per month—missed appointments that can further contribute to backlogs locally.

Just ahead of Roscommon is the Carrick-on-Shannon test centre, which ranked 14th. The Leitrim centre has a marginally lower wait time at 14.5 weeks, but slightly more no shows, averaging 6.8 per month.

Nationally, Thurles, County Tipperary topped the rankings with a pass rate of 70.4%, while Clifden, County Galway came second, helped by an exceptionally low no show rate of just 2.1 per month.

The research also identified the best and worst months for learners to sit their test. January emerged as the strongest month for passing, with the highest national success rate. May and July also performed well, with pass rates of 52.28% and 51.42% respectively.

At the other end of the scale, December recorded the lowest performance, with just 50.06% of candidates passing.
