The late Pat Joe Mannion, seen here on his 100th birthday on October 24th, who has passed away.

A County Roscommon camogie club has paid an emotional tribute to one of its most loyal supporters who passed away days after celebrating his 100th birthday.

The late Pat Joe Mannion passed away peacefully in the care of Roscommon Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

“Just 11 days ago, some of our club members had the privilege of visiting Pat Joe to mark this wonderful milestone. It was a visit that will stay with us for a long time.

“Pat Joe was proudly wearing his Four Roads jersey, a jersey he loved so much that we heard he even wore it to bed!

“Surrounded by the camogie women of Four Roads, Pat Joe perked up, smiled and instantly recognised us.

“He spoke with such pride about his daughter Breda and all she had achieved with the club over the years. He wished us well for the future and assured us that we were in good hands with the next generation — Sinéad, Ciara, Laura, Emily and Chloe.

“Those words meant a lot to us then, but they mean even more today,” said Four Roads Camogie Club.

A poem entitled “A Century of Seasons”, given to him by his sister, sat proudly by his bedside with the words “So, here's to the farmer, the hurler, the friend. Whose goodness and warmth seem to never end.”

Four Roads Camogie Club went on to say that the late Pat Joe Mannion had grown “a beautiful harvest”.

“A family who continue to give so much to our club, both on and off the field. His love for Four Roads lives on through the generations, and we are blessed to have them as part of our club family.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Peggy, James, Padraig, Joe, Liam, Benny, Breda and all the Mannion family, especially his grandchildren and all those who loved him.

“Rest easy, Pat Joe. Your century of seasons may have come to an end, but the seeds you planted will continue to grow for generations to come.”
