Ballinlough farmer Shane Keaveney scooped a national award at the Teagasc FBD Environmental Sustainability Awards in County Laois last night.

Shane was the national winner in the Suckler Beef category at the awards ceremony held in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard, Co Laois.

The awards aim to promote environmentally sustainable farming, and recognise beef farmers leading the way in sustainable practices.

The awards highlight efforts to minimise the environmental footprint, while producing premium beef and ensuring farms remain profitable and environmentally responsible.

Shane operates a suckler farm near Ballinlough in West Roscommon with the support of his wife Gráinne, and their three children, Aaron, Neil and Annie.

The Keaveneys also take part in the social farming initiative, run by Social Farming Ireland, which gives people with disabilities the opportunity to spend time on a family farm, and participate in activities.
