County Roscommon town hit with major power outage

The power outage occurred yesterday.
Strokestown was hit with a major power outage yesterday.
It’s understood that a tree at the local Grotto came in contact with the main power line in the breeze and knocked out the power in the town.
ESB Networks were informed and the local fire service was on site as a precaution.
While electricity has now been restored to most customers, there is still a number of people still without power this morning.
In a message on social media yesterday, Strokestown Tidy Town Group said it had been highlighting this issue for almost four years.
In a message this morning, the group said: "We were fortunate to have volunteers on site at the time who witnessed the events and called the ESB and fire service who were on site within minutes ensuring that no further damage spread.
"We are truly blessed to have local retained fire fighters in Strokestown and also a number of locals working for ESB Networks," it said.
