Attempted ram on Garda car in County Roscommon during failed break-in
Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance following this evening's incident.
A car carrying a criminal gang tried to ram a marked patrol car earlier this evening in Roscommon Town after gardaí arrived at the scene of an attempted burglary.
A Garda spokesperson outlined that at 17.40 p.m this evening, Thursday, gardaí in Roscommon received a report from a vigilant member of the public of a suspicious dark coloured VW golf in the Woodview area of Roscommon Town.
The occupants of the car attempted to break into a nearby residence but were disturbed in doing so.
During the incident, the suspect vehicle tried to ram a marked patrol car, which had been immediately dispatched to the scene from Roscommon Garda station.
The car left the area at high speed in the direction of Athlone.
An extensive search is being conducted in the Roscommon area and surrounding areas but the gang has yet to be located.
