County Roscommon businesses hit by roaming crime gang

One of the BMW cars was burnt out at the Oran GAA club grounds.
A number of businesses were targeted in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) by a roaming crime gang who are believed to have used three vehicles under the cover of darkness.
Gardaí confirmed that a sum of cash was taken from a premises in Roscommon Town following a break-in at approximately 4 a.m. this morning.
It’s believed the same gang robbed the Daybreak store in Knockcroghery shortly afterwards after gaining entry through a side-door using crowbars.
It’s understood that a substantial amount of cash was taken from the shop along with a large quantity of cigarettes from the in-store machine.
An Audi and a BMW carrying the criminal gang were spotted on security cameras as they entered the forecourt of the Knockcroghery retail premises.

Eyewitness reports indicated that these two cars with false registration plates later turned off at Ganly’s roundabout, making their way onto the Athlone bypass before turning off at the junction for Ballymahon, Co. Longford.
It’s believed that a separate but linked BMW car was burnt out near the Oran GAA club grounds some time before these robberies. There are also local reports of attempted break-ins in other parts of the county during the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí said no arrests have been made at this time in relation to the break-ins, and investigations are ongoing.
The Daybreak store reopened this morning following the incident.
