Gardaí appeal for witnesses following serious assault in the county

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the alleged serious assault of a man at a boxing event in County Roscommon on Friday night.
The alleged incident occurred at a premises in the Demesne, Castlerea, yesterday evening. Day one of the quarter finals of the 2024 National Boy/Girl 4 Championships were underway at The Hub when an incident broke out between a number of men at the back of the venue as two young people were about to enter the ring.
“The incident occurred at approximately 9.45pm, when a male, aged in his 40s, was assaulted,” Gardaí said. “He received medical treatment at the scene and was later conveyed to Galway University Hospital for treatment for serious injuries. No further injuries were reported at the time.” An incident room has been established, at Castlerea Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing and Gardaí are appealing to the public for information in relation to this incident.
“In particular, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen a white / silver Audi A4 car travelling in the Castlerea and Ballintubber areas of County Roscommon between 8.30pm and 11.30pm on Friday March 1st 2024,” a statement from Gardaí said.
