The importance of seeing Gardaí on the beat was highlighted at a recent meeting of the Roscommon Joint Policing Committee.

At the meeting, Cllr Kathleen Shanagher complimented the work of local Gardaí but said that people still needed to see Gardaí on patrol on the street.

“We still need to see them patrolling the town and getting familiar with the residents in the town, and that businesspeople see them on the beat.

“I know that we have the patrol cars, but you still can’t top having the Garda on the beat in the town,” she said.

Later in the meeting, Cllr Shanagher said that community groups appreciated the work being done by those on community service.

“They do a lot of work as part of their community service,” she said.

She asked that local judges be informed of this.

“They have done Trojan work around this county that people don’t know about,” she said.
