David O’Callaghan fundraising appeal raises €7,000 to date

The late David O'Callaghan.

A fundraising appeal set up to help cover the funeral expenses of 21-year-old David O’Callaghan has raised more than €7,000 since it was set up a few days ago.

The body of Mr O'Callaghan, who lived in Mohill, was found in Boyle on Wednesday after he he had been missing for four days.

A friend of the young man’s partner has set up a GoFundME appeal, which has already raised more €7,000 since Thursday.

On the GoFundMe page , the message reads: “David was one of those rare people who could light up any room — quick with a joke, ready to listen, and always there when you needed him.

“I’ve set up this GoFundMe to help cover the costs of giving David the farewell he truly deserves. Funeral expenses can be a huge burden on the family, and this will help ease that strain for them so they can focus on celebrating his life.

“Any donations beyond the funeral costs will go to a mental health charity”
