A decision on a planning application for a 400 metre running track in Roscommon Town is due by tomorrow, Tuesday.

On September 1st, 2023, the council received a planning application from the Lisnamult Community Enterprise CLG for an athletic field incorporating a 400 metres running track with perimeter fence, six 18m high floodlights and four 15m high floodlights at Lisnamult. The proposed track would have eight lanes and be all weather.

According to planning documents, the track would have an area of approximately 177 metres by 92.5 metres with a grass field in the middle. This will double as a full sized soccer pitch and an area for athletic field events, such as javelin, hammer throw and shot putt, as well as other community activities.

“Roscommon County had the largest increase in athletics membership during 2023 in Ireland and is one of the only counties not to have a standard eight lane 400 metres track located within the county,” the applicants said.

The council requested further information on the proposal on October 26th, which was received on March 27th.

A decision by the council’s planners is due by tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd.
