"Deep disappointment" has been expressed that no site has yet been identified for a new primary care centre project in Ballaghaderreen.

Earlier this year, the original project on the Convent Road ran aground when the developer withdrew from the process.

A new tender competition is now necessary to kickstart the project first mooted back in 2012, but the HSE has yet to find an alternative site for the development.

In a recent written reply to Fianna Fáil councillor Sean Moylan, a member of the Regional Health Forum, the HSE said it was “currently exploring the availability of potential sites in Ballaghaderreen and the locality suitable to accommodate a PCC with a view to progressing as a capital funded project” as the preferred delivery model.

Cllr Moylan said he was deeply disappointed that the project hadn’t moved any further at this stage. “I want to impress upon the HSE about the importance of this for Ballaghaderreen and surrounding areas. This needs to be delivered as soon as possible,” he said.

The councillor said he would be raising the matter with his party’s spokesperson on health, Dr Martin Daly and the need to highlight the project’s urgency with Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill.
