Dr. Hyde Park and the new athletics track in Lisnamult, which recently received planning approval, are the two biggest beneficiaries of the €4.84m in Government sports funding allocated today, Wednesday, for facilities in County Roscommon.

Lisnamult Residents Association Ltd will benefit from just over €387,000 in funding to assist in the provision of an eight lane all weather IAAF standard athletics track.

The new 400m track in Roscommon Town recently received planning approval from Roscommon County Council.

€383,429 in funding has been allocated to the Roscommon GAA County Board for the provision of new dressing rooms and toilets at Dr Hyde Park.

County Board Chairperson, Brian Carroll, said he was delighted with the funding announcement for the county grounds along with the 18 clubs who will receive more than €2,344,000 in total funding.

In total, forty nine local clubs and community organisations representing a range of sports, including soccer, golf and tennis, were successful in their funding applications under the Community Sport Facilities Fund, formerly known as the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.

The €230m nationwide allocation announced today by the Government follows May’s allocation of €26m for sports equipment, bringing the total investment in community sport and recreation in 2024 to an unprecedented €256m.
