The 46th edition of the Elphin Agricultural Show was launched in An Bothar Rua on Thursday evening last.
This year’s show, taking place on Saturday, August 30th, promises to be a great day out for both breeders and families, with a wide range of competitions, entertainment and music in store.
With €40,000 in prizes up for grabs, the Elphin Mart Grounds will play host to some of the finest livestock from County Roscommon and further afield.
As always, there are a whole host of competition taking place outside the pens, with prizes up for grabs in cookery, crafts, art, photography, flowers and farm produce.
Looking ahead, Elphin Agricultural Show Society chairperson Tommy Gormley called the event “a great occasion around the town,” and he highlighted the shift towards making the show a family day out.
“We’re trying to get the show more family orientated, we have bouncy castles, pet farms, a play area for smaller children, go-karts, water zorbing and a magician. So we’re hoping that will draw a big family crowd,” he said.
Another draw to the show his year is the live music headlined by popular country singer Stuart Moyles, with Brian Nolan and Rough & Ready also bringing their talents to Elphin.
This year’s Monster Raffle first prize is a red breeding heifer, with many other prizes to be won. The draw will take place in An Bothar Rua at 9.30 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased online or at the show.
Mr Gormley thanked all the event and competition sponsors, as well as the committee and the stewards volunteering on the day. He also wished a speedy recovery the Agricultural Show President Paddy Farrell who was recovering in hospital.
Entries for general exhibits closes on Friday, August 22nd, and late payment fees will apply. Show grounds open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 30th and exhibits must be in before 10 a.m..
