A much loved local health initiative has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.
The well known Fit Farmers programme, founded by Moore woman and nurse Laura Tully in 2019, was shortlisted as a finalist in the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards 2026 in the category Healthcare Initiative – Patient Education / Lifestyle Project. Numerous farmers throughout the county have taken part in the programme and benefitted from it.
This award recognises initiatives that support people to take control of their health through education, lifestyle change and practical self-management.
“While it is a lovely recognition for the programme, the real credit goes to the farmers who have taken part over the past number of years,” Fit Farmers said. “Their willingness to show up each week, support one another and make small changes for their health is what Fit Farmers is all about. Many of them will be very excited to hear that the programme they have been part of is being recognised at a national level.”
Fit Farmers focuses on practical health education and physical activity, supporting farmers to improve areas such as heart health, nutrition, blood pressure, sleep, stress and musculoskeletal health, while building strength and fitness for the demands of farming life.
Fit Farmers expressed a sincere thank you to everyone who has supported the programme so far, and it is looking forward to the final on May 22nd.
