Five County Roscommon projects have been shortlisted for the 2024 Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) Awards.
The Castlerea Rose Festival is among the contenders for Best Irish Festival, which the council said was “now recognised as one of the most successful and entertaining family festivals in the West of Ireland”.
The 'Roscommon Water Source' project has also been shortlisted in the Best Green Sustainable category. Athleague Village is also in the running in the Best Town or Village Regeneration category. In the Best Environmental Project category, the Ballyleague Resilience Park is among the nominees. The 'Planning Roscommon Together' project has been named as one of the finalists in the Communications category.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre on February 17th. The five shortlisted projects have been selected from over two hundred entries to this year’s awards.
‘Roscommon Water Source’ is the umbrella name for an initiative which sees the council working in collaboration with the National Federation of Group Water Schemes on a Source Protection Project over a number of group water schemes.
The ‘Planning Roscommon Together’ project is a unique and innovative initiative. In early 2023, the council brought together key local development stakeholders to contribute to multiple local policies at the one time.
The council said that the enhancement of the Athleague village streetscape had delivered a range of benefits from economic development to enhanced community identity and environmental sustainability.
The Ballyleague Resilience Park was part of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme applied for by Roscommon County Council in partnership with Lough Ree Access For All CLG.
“€200,000 was allocated with additional matched funding provided by Roscommon County Council and Lough Ree Access For All,” the council said.
“Works completed by Roscommon County Council includes improvements to the existing public park area to enhance biodiversity and support climate change adaptation measures.”
