Four nominees in contest for late Anthony Waldron's council seat

Four nominees are in the race to fill the late Cllr Anthony Waldron's seat on Roscommon County Council following the passing of the nomination deadline yesterday, Thursday.

Roscommon County Council has confirmed this morning  that the four nominees looking to fill the vacant seat are Gail Murray and Michael Holland snr, both Ballintubber residents; Monksland’s Ernie Draper and Mairead Kenny from Donamon.

Ms Murray is being backed by the Ballintubber Development Association while the family of the late Cllr Waldron is supporting Michael Holland. Both are involved in local community development.

Mr Draper is a community activist in South Roscommon while Ms Kenny ran as an Independent candidate in the NUI Seanad elections earlier this year.

A decision on the seat, in the Roscommon Municipal District, will be dealt with as part of the agenda of the May plenary meeting of Roscommon County Council, taking place on Monday, May 26th at 2.15 p.m...
