Four year driving ban imposed and bench warrant issued
A 21-year-old man was put off the road at a recent sitting of Roscommon District Court, with a bench warrant also issued for his arrest.
Yanyk Kuzmenko, with an address at Unit A Bree House, Brize, Claremorris, County Mayo was before the court for custody of a fake Ukrainian licence, driving without insurance, driving without a driving licence, and using a false licence. He was detected on October 21st ,2024.
The court heard from Garda Yvonne Frayne that on the date in question at 7 p.m, the accused was stopped, due to an automatic number plate recognition detection, for no insurance.
The court heard the accused had little to no English, with Garda Frayne having to use Google translate to communicate.
The defendant supplied a Ukrainian driving licence, which the Garda suspected to be a forgery. Using Interpol’s services, this was later confirmed.
Garda Frayne also told the court that the accused was at risk of a custodial sentence.
The court was told he had previous convictions for driving without insurance.
Hearing the evidence, Judge James Faughnan disqualified the accused from driving for four years and issued a bench warrant.
