A 49-year-old woman pleaded guilty at Roscommon District Court to a fraud offence.

Maria José Pereira Souza, with an address at Over Talk Shack Apt 2, Roscommon, pleaded guilty to using a false Bord Gais utility bill to try and open a bank account.

The offence happened on December 30th, 2024, at her address.

Giving evidence, Sergeant Enda Daly said that the accused was using the document to attempt to open a Bank of Ireland account, and that this was detected by the bank.

Judge James Faughnan asked were there not a lot of these types of cases, and Sgt Daly replied that he was aware of a few.

The judge said he wished to get to the bottom of these cases and adjourned the matter until July.
