A weather station in County Roscommon recorded the largest number of days of air and ground frost throughout the country, alongside Ireland’s coldest temperature of the spring.

While Met Éireann has confirmed that the spring of 2025 was the sunniest on record, there were cool nights.

According to Met Éireann’s Climate Statement for Spring, Mount Dillon recorded 54 days of ground frost and 14 days of air frost this spring — more than any other weather station in the country.

The spring’s lowest air temperature -4.6c and grass temperature of -10.5c were recorded at Mount Dillon on Saturday, March 15th.

Overall, it was the sunniest spring on record, with most stations recording highest values for total hours of sunshine in spring.

Spring 2025 was also relatively dry, provisionally ranking as the 16th driest since records began in 1941, and the driest since 2020.
