The alert will last until 9 am, with Met Eireann warning of risks of spot flooding, difficult travelling conditions and lightning strikes.

The warnings for Wicklow, Wexford, and Waterford come into effect at 5 pm until midnight.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford come under another yellow alert from 12 noon until 8pm on Friday.

The Costa Del Roscommon has returned with a bang today. Temperatures at the Met Éireann Weather Station at Mount Dillon, near Cloontuskert in East Roscommon recorded 26 degrees this afternoon, hotter than the 24 degrees of yesterday.

A yellow high-temperature warning is currently in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Mayo until 7am on Wednesday.

Uisce Éireann confirmed that the water conservation order will be in place for Dublin and south Tipperary – as well as parts of Kildare, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow – until the end of August 26th.

Met Éireann says the hot weather will lead to uncomfortable sleeping conditions, animal welfare issues, heat stress and dehydration, especially for the vulnerable and elderly, and water safety issues.

It will be mainly dry this week but some thunderstorms could occur later in the week and over the weekend.

Six weather stations broke their all-time maximum temperature records during the month of June.

Temperatures in the county have reached 30 degrees this afternoon as Roscommon continues to enjoy the sunshine.

Galway, Mayo and Roscommon are no longer under the alert from now.

Thursday is set to be the hottest day of the week in Ireland with temperatures up to 31C in parts.

The outlook into the weekend projected showers or some longer outbreaks of rain on Friday and Saturday.

Met Éireann said daytime temperatures will exceed 25C with temperatures possibly reaching 30C on Thursday.

The warning begins at 9 pm and ends on 9am on Friday.

The warning comes into place at 6pm and lasts until midnight for Cork, while Waterford's will last from 9pm until 3am on Saturday.

The warning has been in place since 1:52 on Wednesday and is in place until 4 pm.

The thunderstorm warnings bring an end to a record-breaking hot spell across the country over the last few days.

Speaking on RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland, Murphy said that the weather over the weekend will be “typical Irish weather”, which would mean a mix of sunshine, clouds and some rain.

Temperatures above 29C were recorded in provisional data on Tuesday.

Killarney and Clonmel automatic climate stations recorded 28.8C at about 3pm on Monday.

Tomorrow could see highs of 20 to 28 degrees

Warm weather is forecast throughout Ireland over the weekend, with the highest temperatures expected in Leinster.

Met Éireann has said temperatures could rise to 22 degrees over the weekend, with sunny weather to continue into next week.

The warning comes into effect from 3am until 6 pm.

The warm weather is set to continue on Monday, mostly dry with sunny spells improving as the day goes on.

Ireland is one of the driest places in Europe right now, and is set to be hotter than parts of the Canaries.
