Full recount in Boyle Local Electoral Area underway

A full recount in the Boyle Electoral Area has just got underway, involving the checking of almost 11,400 votes.

The recount takes place following a request in the early hours of this morning from Fine Gael candidate Dympna Daly-Finn as the battle continues to fill the sixth and final seat.

After the eight count early this morning, just three votes separated Daly-Flynn and her party colleague, outgoing councillor Liam Callaghan.

It is one of three seats yet to be filled but, as it stands, the fourth and fifth seat are destined for Fianna Fail candidate Sean Moylan and Independent councillor Tom Crosby.

The recount is expected to take several hours. 

The other 12 seats in the Roscommon and Athlone Local Electoral Areas have been filled.
