Funding of €360,000 announced for eight County Roscommon projects

Projects such as astroturf pitches, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks nature trails, outdoor performance spaces and community cafés have been funded.

Funding of close to €360,000 for eight CLÁR projects in County Roscommon has been announced by Minister Heather Humphreys.

The funding is part of €6.2m for CLÁR Measure 1 projects for schools and community projects across the country. Projects such as astroturf pitches, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks nature trails, outdoor performance spaces and community cafés have been funded.

The successful County Roscommon projects are: Ballinagare Health & Leisure Centre - internal renovation work at the Community Centre, €50,000; Ballyleague Hall Internal renovation work, €50,000; Ballintleva NS - installation of an astro-turf pitch and ancillary site works, €50,000; Castleplunkett Development Association - regeneration of local amenity area, €50,000; Ballintubber Development Association - purchase and installation of playground equipment, €50,000; Tulsk National School -conversion of school’s existing training pitch to an astro-turf pitch, €50,000; Ballaghaderreen Community Park - install extra drains, slit drains and spread sand on the field playing area, €32,760; and Moore Community Hall - complete the upgrading of car parking facilities, €26,868.

The funding was welcomed by Senators Aisling Dolan and Eugene Murphy.

Senator Dolan said that it was great to see so many successful projects for the county. “These eight projects will bring so much to people living in these areas and is fantastic news for so many community groups and their volunteers and I want to pay special thanks to the people who spend hours working on applications and with the team in Roscommon County Council.

“Minister Heather Humphreys has made it her priority to ensure communities get a boost and we have won fantastic investment into the county under the Department of Rural and Community Development.

“The CLÁR funding is being provided as part of Our Rural Future, the Government’s strategic five-year rural development plan which supports a thriving and inclusive rural Ireland.

“I want to thank Minister Humphreys for this new initiative through the CLÁR programme which will bring investment and have a major impact for communities,” said Senator Dolan.

Senator Eugene Murphy said that “the funding will make a big difference locally here in our communities. In total, there is €359,628 being provided to eight projects.

"The funding will be welcomed by local groups that put in so much hard work here in Roscommon and it is important that we continue to support the hard work they are doing to make our communities the best they can be.” 

Announcing the details of funding, Minister Humphreys said: “This funding is being provided under the 2023 CLÁR Programme and is all about ensuring that some of our most rural communities benefit from projects that will make them more vibrant places to live, work and visit.

“So from astroturf pitches, playgrounds and sensory gardens to walking tracks, nature trails, outdoor performance spaces and community cafés – these projects really will make a difference to the lives of people of all ages and abilities.”
