Funeral arrangements for victim of County Roscommon traffic accident
Tom Mulhern died at Sligo University Hospital following a road traffic accident.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for well-known County Roscommon man and horse breeder Tom Mulhern (74), who sadly passed away following a road traffic accident on Monday.
Mr Mulhern died at Sligo University Hospital from the injuries he sustained when his jeep was in a collision with a car on the N4 near Ardcarne, County Roscommon on Monday, September 30th at 1.20pm.
A former staff member of An Post in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, Mr Mulhern, Ardcarne, Boyle and late of Carrick Road, Boyle, was a very well-known horse breeder. His most famous stallion was Ala Hounak whose prodigies were the high successful High Cotton, bred by local vet Barry Lynch, and Rhein Dross, bred by the late Brian Neilan and John Hanly.
Paying tribute to Mr Mulhern local Fianna Fail councillor Sean Moylan stated: "Tom was a very well-known man in this area. He was a good horsey man and as far as I know he was on his way to the races when this accident occurred. He bred a great stallion that was known far and wide.
"People came from all over to get the horse to cover their mares. He had previously worked for An Post and was very well liked within the company."
Mr Mulhern is survived by his loving sister, Ann Nicholson, Carraroe, Sligo; brothers, John (Ballina); Vincent (Longford), Gerard (Canada), Joseph (Spain); sisters-in-law, Maria and Mary; brother-in-law, John Nicholson. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.
He will be reposing at Shivnan’s Funeral Home, Ballyfarnon, on Saturday evening, October 5th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with removal to St. Michael’s Church, Cootehall on Sunday morning to arrive for celebration of Mass at 11.30 a.m. He will be laid to rest afterwards in Ardcarne Cemetery.
