Gardaí continuing to investigate cause of fatal house fire in Frenchpark

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the cause of a fatal house fire in Frenchpark yesterday, Wednesday.
In a statement, Roscommon County Council said that fire units from Ballaghaderreen and Boyle Fire Stations responded to the scene of a fire in The Oaks housing estate on the Boyle Road in Frenchpark yesterday evening, Wednesday, June 18th.
Units from both fire stations numbering over twenty personnel responded to the incident immediately after receiving an emergency call at 19.14 p.m..
The council said that the fire was brought under control but the blaze sadly claimed the life of one person.
"Gardaí are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which is not yet known. It’s understood there were reports of an explosion at the scene immediately prior to the outbreak of fire.
"The scene of the fire is being technically examined by gardaí and the scene has been made safe.
"A number of adjoining properties suffered structural and roof damage as a result of the fire," said the council.
Specialist excavation equipment was used at the scene to assist in emergency operations which were conducted by members of the Fire Service, accompanied by An Garda Siochana and the National Ambulance Service.
