The preferred site for the long awaited Ballaghaderreen Primary Care Centre will hopefully be identified soon, the HSE has indicated.
Early last year, plans for the long-awaited health facility in the town suffered a massive blow when it emerged that the developer had withdrawn his involvement from the project.
Following this setback, in December, as part of a review of potential sites, the HSE sought expressions of interest for suitable development sites or lands of 1.5 to 3.5 acres in the North Roscommon town.
The HSE was interested in lands, both with and without planning permission, easily accessible to Ballaghaderreen Town Centre and local community facilities, and zoned and suitable for the development of a primary care centre.
The HSE has told the Herald that it advertised for expressions of interest in local newspapers at the end of 2025. A number of responses with proposed sites were received. "These are due to be assessed in the coming weeks with a preferred site to be identified subject to suitability," said a spokesperson.
The HSE said it was “unable to disclose the number of expressions of interest received” as the assessment process is ongoing.
