Issues with bin collections in some areas around the county were raised at a recent meeting of the Athlone Municipal District.
Cllr Laurence Fallon had previously highlighted that at Kileenrevagh, Lecarrow, residents must bring their bins to the head of the road where the L-7134 meets the N61 for collection.
This had resulted in reduced visibility at the junction for cars exiting onto the N61.
Residents had met with representatives of Barna Waste and demonstrated that a turning area for the waste truck is available on the L-7134. It had been agreed that the council would write to Barna Recycling about the issue.
At the March meeting, the independent councillor said that substantial progress had been made, and he thanked the council for its work on this.
He added that he had spoken to the landowner where the turning point would be located, and he was more than happy to facilitate that.
Cllr John Keogh said he had been liaising with Barna Waste about areas in South Roscommon where the bin collection service could be improved.
He asked whether it would be possible to get a meeting with the company to discuss the situation.
He said that issues around turning points could be resolved to allow for an improved service.
“It is a great service, but there are vulnerable people living on some of these small roads. People who can’t bring their bins quite a way to have them collected,” he said.
