Ballaghaderreen councillor Micheál Frain is calling on the HSE “to stand in now” to deliver the primary care centre project for the town without private sector involvement.
Plans for the long-awaited Ballaghaderreen Primary Care Centre have suffered a massive blow as the Herald revealed that the developer has pulled out of the project.
Despite a lease agreement being signed with the developer, the HSE has revealed that the developer confirmed "they were not in a position to progress with the construction of the project”.
The HSE also outlined that a new tender competition would be necessary to further progress the development.
Independent councillor Micheál Frain said that the news the project had stalled was regrettable and hoped that the situation could be rectified with the HSE as soon as possible.
“The HSE needs to stand in now and not be dependent on the private sector and provide it themselves in conjunction with local doctors.
"The primary care centre is one of many key services that are badly needed in the town,” said Cllr Frain.
Plans for the significant health facility was first mooted back in 2012 by the then Government.
