Local stations to get new additional train services

Iarnród Éireann plans to make a significant change to the train schedule serving a number of local stations, with a number of new services being added, along with timetable changes for several of the existing trains.
Last week, Iarnród Éireann announced it is planning a new timetable on the Dublin Heuston to Galway Céannt line from August 25th. This will be of particular interest to people living in South Roscommon. However, no additional services are being proposed on the Dublin to Westport line.
Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed the announcement of seven new additional services on the Galway to Dublin Heuston Train Line.
“This is fantastic news for so many people. They now have more choice instead of having to take a car and deal with traffic commuting every morning and evening for work and college," she said. "They now have more choice when it comes to travel.” Senator Dolan welcomed a new early morning 5:45 Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Fri) which will arrive in Galway before 9am. She added that an early morning train service from Tullamore station will serve all stations including Athlone and Ballinasloe and will get people in before 9:00 am.
“I’m really delighted myself to see a new late 20.30 from Heuston. I know this will be of real interest for people who are working in Dublin or visiting Dublin City and again this will be serving all stations including Ballinasloe and Athlone,” she said.
“These new services from Monday to Friday along with the new Saturday and Sunday options means families can leave their car behind. It takes away the stress of parking on a family day out.” Senator Dolan stated she has worked on the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan.
“I have worked hard to ensure Ballinasloe was included on these stops, we still don’t have a catering service on the trains and we need to see these services restored.”
