Man arrested following €360,000 cannabis seizure

Gardaí have seized €360,000 of suspected illegal drugs, and arrested a man following a search of a vehicle in Castlebar, Co. Mayo area on Monday, 18th May as part of Operation Tara.

Gardaí from the Mayo Roscommon Longford Divisional Drugs Unit, while on patrol, stopped and searched a car yesterday evening.

During the course of the search 18kgs of suspected illegal cannabis with an approximate value of €360,000 was seized.

A man (aged in his 40’s) was arrested in connection with the incident, and is currently detained pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda Station in the North Western Region.

The drugs seized are subject to further analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.
