A man charged with possessing a stolen vehicle, which had been taken from a UK address over 18 months ago, has been sent forward for trial.
Patrick Martin Donohue (26), Hillcrest, Tulla Hill, Loughrea, Galway, appeared before Athlone District Court to face a sole count under section 18 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.
The charge alleges that Mr Donohue was in the possession of stolen property, namely a grey Ford Ranger on January 4th, 2025 at the N61, Barrymore, Athlone, Roscommon. The vehicle in question was allegedly stolen in the UK on May 30th, 2024.
State solicitor for Roscommon Kieran Madigan said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented for the case to be sent forward to the next sessions of Roscommon Circuit Court.
Defence solicitor Dara Hayden said although his client was self-employed, an application for legal aid was made and approved by the court, which included the assigning of a junior counsel to represent Mr Donohue when the case comes before the Circuit Criminal Court.
Presiding Judge Deirdre Gearty remanded him on bail to appear at Roscommon Circuit Court on March 10th.
