Mediation talks on Ballagh public realm dispute ongoing as daily protests continue

Mediation talks aimed at resolving the dispute over the council’s public realm works in Ballaghaderreen are expected to continue for several weeks.
Mediator Denis Kelly has been tasked with the role of ending the standoff between the local authority and the local community over the controversial €4.5m town centre enhancement project.
It's understood that the talks will continue for a number of weeks.
As the mediation process continues, daily morning protests in the town have now entered their twelfth week.
Up to thirty people are still turning up each morning to create a presence on The Square.
Concerned over the loss of parking and the permanent closure of a road in the town centre, traders and residents want significant changes to the plan before they will withdrew their opposition.
