Politicians are fuming that a modular homes plan for the county was not discussed with them.
It is understood that plans are being discussed to install 167 modular homes in Roscommon Town, Boyle and Ballaghaderreen to provide accommodation for 686 Ukrainian refugees.
On Wednesday the Roscommon Herald revealed that the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), which provides a range of professional services to the local government sector, provided the proposals to Roscommon County Council.
Four sites – two in Roscommon Town – and one each in Boyle and Ballaghaderreen - have been identified for the installation of these modular units.
“It is beyond frustrating that elected representatives read about these plans in the local newspaper and were not informed by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) when such proposals were issued to Roscommon County Council yesterday,” said Deputy Claire Kerrane.
“I understand the LGMA are now seeking feedback from the council, which is fine but they should also be engaging and seeking feedback from elected representatives,” stressed the Sinn Fein TD.
“I raised this issue on the floor of the Dáil today with the Tánaiste. I made it clear to him that it is unacceptable that elected representatives are left on the back foot on such a proposal and I have asked him to ensure that the LGMA share their plans with elected representatives and seek our feedback.
“I along with my colleague Cllr Michael Mulligan have been in contact with the council today and we are awaiting further information, which the council have said will be circulated to us in a note today.
“We will continue to keep the public updated as and when we have information,” said Deputy Kerrane.
