A new Garda Sergeant is being assigned to Ballaghaderreen from this week.

A new Garda Sergeant is being assigned to Ballaghaderreen from this week, and a new Garda member has transferred in, according to Deputy Claire Kerrane.

Deputy Kerrane told the Roscommon Herald that she had a “positive” meeting on the issue of Garda resources in Ballaghaderreen last week.

Speaking following the meeting Deputy Kerrane said: “I’ve had a positive meeting with the Garda Superintendent in Ballaghaderreen on progress on Garda resources.

“I am glad to report that a new Garda Sergeant will be assigned to Ballaghaderreen from this week, a new Garda member has transferred in and the additional resources put in last year remain, albeit dependent on overtime.

“It is clear an effort has gone in from the gardaí themselves to highlight the need for greater resources in Ballaghaderreen, especially by the new Superintendent - I commend them for that.

“I will continue to pursue a rural Garda plan to ensure greater Garda visibility and presence in our towns and villages.

“I believe it is essential that we have a specific plan for rural areas - they are unique to our urban centres and need a plan,” said the Sinn Féin deputy.
