Knockcroghery native Seamus Gilleran has been appointed principal of the five teacher Brideswell National School, effective from Monday, April 13th.

He had been principal of the three teacher Castlesampson National School in Taughmaconnell parish for the past four years.

Receiving his early education at Glanduff NS, St John's and St Aloysius College, Athlone, Seamus initially pursued a business degree at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and then opted for a post grad at Cantbury University.

His first teacher post for one year was at the Abbey NS, Roscommon, followed by a year on the staff of Ballybay NS, Kiltoom and also a year at the Dean Kelly NS, Athlone.

Seamus then spent four years teaching in the Middle East, a year in Abu Dhabi and three years at Doha, Qatar.

On his return to South Roscommon, he spent six years on the staff of Ballymahon NS before taking the principal post at Castlesampson.

Son of Tom and Anne Gilleran, Kellybrook, he is an avid Gaelic games enthusiast and is involved with St Dominic's GAA Club at under-age level.

Seamus replaces Orla Fogarty who had been Brideswell NS principal for the past seven years before taking up the post of principal at the 414 pupil Coosan NS in Athlone.

She is the former Ms Orla McManus from Drum in South Roscommon.
