West Roscommon powers ahead with community energy initiative

Residents and businesses in the Gorthaganny area are set to benefit from new opportunities to reduce their energy costs after the community successfully registered as a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC).
As part of the initiative, 10 homes and four businesses in the West Roscommon area qualified for a free energy audit and Building Energy Rating (BER) assessment.
Participating homeowners and business operators completed energy and BER surveys, and following these assessments, they will be presented with options to improve energy saving in their home or business.
There will be no obligation to complete proposed energy works and participants can choose a selection if they wish and receive advice from a Sustainable Energy Community engineer.
Tooreen in Co Mayo has also registered as a Sustainable Energy Community and a joint launch of an Energy Master Plan for both communities will be launched in the Gorthaganny Community Centre on Wednesday evening, October 7th at 7 p.m.. Energy saving product suppliers will be in attendance.
The event will provide local residents with an opportunity to learn more about energy-saving measures and the supports available to help improve efficiency and reduce energy bills. A number of energy-saving product suppliers will also be in attendance to showcase the latest technologies and solutions.
Presenter at the launch will be Eve Hughes, Community Energy Engineer with the Contract Research Unit at Atlantic Technological University, Sligo.
