Over €23 million announced for Roscommon roads

The Department of Transport has announced a total of €23,384,740 for regional and local roads in County Roscommon.
The bulk of the funding of €23,034,740 is for Protection and Renewal Grants.
Under the 2026 Specific Improvement Grants €300,000 has been awarded to Ardsallagh while €50,000 has been awarded to the proposed Monksland Relief Road to appoint a consultant to examine the feasibility of the scheme.
In total €555,000 has been approved for safety improvement works on regional and local roads, while €510,500 has been granted towards Bridge Rehabilitation Works on regional and local roads.
€695,000 has been granted for 2026 Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Works including Culliaghmore Drainage Scheme, €100,000; Falty Drainage Scheme, €100,000; Keelbanaba, €150,000 with €350,000 for new roads/road improvement grants.
Funding for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge and the N4 Carrick to Dromod bypass has also been announced.
Also included is €1.2 million for Hartley Bridge which connects the counties of Leitrim and Roscommon.
Local FG deputy Frank Feighan has welcomed the funding stating, “this follows on from further funding received over the last number of years. This is a vital piece of infrastructure between counties Roscommon and Leitrim and it serves a large population area, into Cootehall, Boyle and serving back into the town of Carrick-on-Shannon.”
In total the Department of Transport will provide over €1.5 billion in exchequer funding for national, regional and local roads in 2026. This represents a 13% increase in road funding over 2025.
The almost €800 million allocation for national roads includes: €659 million in exchequer capital funding through Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII); €104 million for national roads under Public Private Partnerships and approximately €33 million for regular maintenance of national roads, provided to local authorities.
