Clubs and organisations in Four Roads have extended best wishes to Pat Joe Mannion on the occasion of his 100th birthday.

Pat Joe from Carrowntlieve, near Four Roads, on the shores of Lough Croan, was born in 1926.

Four Roads Camogie Club said that he was one of the club’s most loyal and longstanding supporters.

“Pat Joe has been a great supporter of Four Roads down through the years, and it’s lovely to see that connection continuing through the generations - his sons Padraig, Joe, and Benny are all key coaches with our teams, James helps us out with dinner dances and fundraisers and Liam and his wonderful wife Peggy who has supported us at games over the years; his daughter Breda, wore the Four Roads jersey herself, and now his granddaughters Sinead, Laura, Ciara, Chloe and Emily, are all current players with the club. A century of memories and a Four Roads family through and through.

“To reach 100 years is an incredible milestone, and we hope Pat Joe has a brilliant day surrounded by all his family. From everyone at Four Roads Camogie, Happy 100th Birthday Pat Joe,” said the club.

“Pat Joe was born in 1926, the same year as Queen Elizabeth II, David Attenborough, Miles Davis and Marilyn Monroe,” noted the Mount Talbot Through The Ages Facebook page. It was just three years after the end of the Civil War in Ireland, 19 years before the end of World War 2, a year when the first transatlantic telephone call was made.

“Pat Joe has experienced massive changes in Ireland over his long and eventful life. He has a massive love for the game of hurling (his sons were great hurlers) and it is extraordinary to think that he has attended every county senior hurling final that Four Roads were in from the mid 1930's up to only a few years ago. He was 10 years old when he attended his first one, he thinks he may have missed one. Wishing Pat Joe a very happy 100th birthday and we hope you have a very enjoyable day with your family, and the wider hurling world salutes you and wishes you many more years of health and happiness," added the Mount Talbot post.
